A comic album is easy to love once you open it, but a cover alone rarely tells you why you should. Standaard Uitgeverij wanted more people on TikTok to discover a handful of albums, from long-running series like Thorgal and Largo Winch to a story drawn in the classic clear line style, and to feel curious enough to read one themselves.
The campaign ran as a weekly series with one creator, Ziczackitty: five albums in five weeks, one TikTok each. Every video followed the same rhythm. She gave a quick tour of the story, took a close look at the pages and drew one of its characters with a stylus, in bright lines on a black background. At the end, viewers who followed her and left a comment could win the album.
In the XIII Trilogy video, for example, she explains why Lieutenant Jones is such a strong character, in a story set in the time of the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War. The heroes changed every week, from Thorgal’s snake charmer Mysla to Largo Winch, and from the third video on, her drawing was part of the prize too. Week after week the portraits went up on her wall, until the series had become a small exhibition of its own. Five albums, five heroes, one full wall.
